Veteran Auckland Councillor Alf Filipaina says the new Covid-19 vaccination buses are a game changer for the community.
Filipaina says the buses will enable more people to be vaccinated.
"I believe it is a game changer because what you have is having the community, they will be staying in their area. The buses will be going to them, to their community, that's the difference."
A total of twelve buses will be rolled out, aiming to go to areas where there are low vaccination rates.
Filipaina says it is now a matter of eliminating misinformation being spread to young people.
"They need to make up their own mind by talking to people that they trust, for example their GP, their doctor, talk to them, don't listen to all this rubbish on social media."
A blessing ceremony was held in Auckland yesterday to bless the first of three buses that are being rolled out to areas where vaccination numbers are low.
The Northern Region Health Coordination Centre Director Dr Anthony Jordan attended and says more vaccination busses are being prepared for roll out.
“We've just got three going out, this is kind of our pilot but we imagine up to twelve busses could be rolled out but it's also about whether or not that's something our community and our providers want to take up."
